To be honest I was so ready for this season to be done I was happy the way it ended. The team was playing better and a conference tournament title wouldn't of shocked me, but we all knew the season would end with a loss, and while I enjoyed every win this year the losses and ties were mostly painful to watch. Still 24th in the pairwise isn't bad given the coaching change recruiting losses along with losing a great senior class last year hit us hard.

I was gonna start this thread saying hockey doesn't really matter now, but typing this is a good distraction. I saw Wisconsin lost some guys early the other day, so at least in some cases it will be a normal offseason. Really don't think the speculation seniors could remain next year will happen, but if it does the Poehlings are in that sweet spot of not being major pro prospects but great college players. Who knows what the future holds.

I doubt the winter sport Seniors will get a waiver from the NCAA, what with the regular season being over in all of them, but I wouldn't be surprised to see spring sports Seniors get a waiver as their ENTIRE season got scrapped

I feel like the only early departure risk is Hrenak, especially since we literally ALWAYS see our Goalies leave after their Senior season; I think it's written into their scholarships or something lol
Seriously hope he doesn't go though, the guy deserves one last great run with a good team in front of him

If Hentges had kept up his first half production the whole season I think he'd be a prime candidate as well, especially with the Wild trying to retool (and we'd probably have a few more wins, but I digress  )

Ugh, I really feel that if we'd gotten past WMU we could've won the Frozen Faceoff, we were getting hot at the right time (the last UMD game not-withstanding)

Mick Hatten@MickHatten
David Hrenak, the @SCSUHUSKIES_MH starting goalie, is back home in Slovakia.
But i got in touch with him earlier today and the @LAKings draft pick said he is planning on coming back for his senior season.

Great pickup! :)

One less hole to fill, and he's got tons of D1 experience

Dude sounds really good as well from Mick's article; loving the job Larson is doing getting great players into the program

He only played 3 years at Michigan Tech does the 5 year grad transfer rule mean he can play 2 more?

Says in the article that he has one year of eligibility remaining. The transfer rule allows them 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibility.

If you remember, Kuster and Papa had to file for redshirt exemptions to gain the extra year. Seamus graduates in 3 years this year so he has 1 year left he can use with this grad rule change.

NCAA says if you have a scholarship you have 5 years once you start to complete a 4 year degree. Have to meet certain completion percentage each year and academic requirements to remain on scholarship.

D1 has more age restrictions than D3.
Must start academic progress within 1 year of graduating high school. D3 doesn't so sometimes you hear about the 30 or 40 year old military veteran.

That's also why you hear about the overage junior players taking online classes or like Trejbal having issues when they come in if their grades aren't maintained or they played a game with a pro involved. Additional restrictions or NCAA hoops to jump.
A lot of other restrictions if they play an exhibition with any pros involved or talk to pro leagues or Jr leagues with pros in them- in many cases can lose their entire eligibility.
