Congrats to Baxter/Brainerd's Mitch McLain making WCHA rookie of the week for Bowling Green +3 with a goal and assist against Clarkson last weekend.

In the early going, the Huskies up north in Michigan are the team to beat in the WCHA; Tech swept Ferris last weekend and Michigan this weekend.

The Beavers are hanging in the MacNaughton race so far, Sweeping Alaska (not UAA) this weekend

The USHL's leading scorer, Brock Boeser, originally from Burnsville and currently in Waterloo, has decommitted from Wisconsin. This is probably more indicative of the situation in Wisconsin than anything else. Word is he'll commit to BC, UND, or Minnesota, but I'd be shocked if it's any other school than the latter. I think he was just giving lip service to the other two.

Personally, I'd actually prefer he commit to UND. I think it's good for SCSU when any NCHC school is a destination for a top tier recruit. However, I don't think that will happen in this case.

I meant to post this, but I guess I forgot: Maimi sophomore D Trevor Hamilton has chosen to return to junior hockey.

Michigan Tech is #1 in the country!

Crazy to see how far they've come in two short years; last time they were relevant to SCSU they were a bottom-feeder in the WCHA, winning only 8 Games (granted, one of those 8 effectively cost SCSU sole possession of the MacNaughton, but who's counting? Haha...Ugh lol)

HOLY CRAP. Welcome the Arizona State University Sun Devils to the NCAA D1 fold! They will start the transition next year, with their first full season in 2016-17.

NCAA's announcement of it: http://on.ncaa.com/1EX9BsY

Fox Sport's article on it (nearly the exact writings from the NCAA article with a few other incites): http://www.foxsports.com/arizona/story/ ... ram-111814

From the sounds of things they're hoping to have a conference lined up for them by 2017-18 season.

This is pretty much the best news ever!!

More College Hockey around the country makes it a more important sport (to the mainstream sports fans) and Pac-12 adding D1 Hockey would put it on the national radar/map!

The WCHA will split again. Adding another school with high travel is out of the question for their current state. They already have 10 schools, which many consider to be the perfect number. The great lakes schools (aka MI schools) were talking before about making a great lakes conference during the shakeup. ASU makes the 60th NCAA team, and the odd man out is Air Force in the AHA. The most viable solution is a new WCHA/GLHC with the WCHA adding ASU and AF remaining the step child of a different conference.
WCHA would be: BSU, MSUM, ASU, UAA, UAH, UAF.
GLHC would be BG, MTU, NMU, FSU, LSU, AF.

Or AHA will just add another western team to make things simple. lol

The Strib was saying the little 6 was also courting them; 'course that makes no sense, but then nothing the NCAA does makes any sense

And I agree with MD that those Conferences would make sense

I think the NCHC should add ASU (because of the cheap travel to DU and CC) and Mankato (simply to piss off Chris Dilks). The rest of the leagues can suck it.

I think any Great Lakes conference would have to include Western. Plus I really don't think ASU made the jump to DI so it could play the likes of Bemidji, Huntsville, and Fairbanks.

I think ASU and Air Force to the NCHC makes the most sense. Air Force is situated in the city where the conference is headquartered with two in-state rivals, and ASU is close to all 3 of the Colorado schools.

Not that I doubt future major conference realignment will happen. Motzko stated that the CCHA is merely "in mothballs," hinting that it may resurrect. Could be something like your Great Lakes conference plus Miami and Western. The big domino, as it was in 2011, is Notre Dame. I've heard conflicting reports on how they're liking Hockey East. Plus they have tons of sway at any negotiating table, so wherever they want to go, they're in.

Interesting insights aries. I think you're right about the competition ASU wants to play, but they may regret biting off more than they can chew. I wouldn't mind ASU and AF moving in, but they would be the UAAs of the NCHC. I haven't heard grubles out of ND country, but I'm not that connected. It would be interesting if those movements happened. Though, I would be sad to lose Miami. If both happened, so we lost MIA and WM and adopted ASU and AF, it would practically make us the Western conference, lol.

HuskyFan64 wrote:The Strib was saying the little 6 was also courting them; 'course that makes no sense, but then nothing the NCAA does makes any sense.

Other than them being a Pac12 school, it really does make sense. ASU is HUGE. Twice the size of UMTC actually, and larger than all of the B1G schools (even the ones without hockey). Though, they did say that they're hoping to tip the dominoes for other Pac12 schools to join, so joining B1G could be a politically disastrous move. The big 5 conferences do not like each other.

Screw Kato. I want Tech back, and if they can keep their performance up I won't look so foolish saying that.
