Ouch. Talk about getting hammered. I can imagine Sandelin is finding a way to blame someone else as we sit here.

Plus they lose Elliot after this season, they are gonna be hurting next year. Supposedly they are supposed to have some o.k. recruits coming in though.
Elliot pretty much carried that team though, unless they get some major scoring punch.....which they didn't even have last year but had Elliot....gonna be some long years.

Why is it Sandelin's fault they left?
It sucks though as a tUMD fan.[/quote]
Not his fault, per se. Not blaming him, really. It's just that, this cat is like Craig Dahl: anything bad that happens is the cause of something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH ME.
These kids would probably stick around if the team did better and the team would probably do better if they had a better coach. So Scotty got you cats into the Frozen Four... nice, I was cheering for you. However, he's done nothing without Junior.

Then why are players leaving Minnesota, North Dakota and Denver early? Your argument makes no sense... Niskanen was a first round pick and Raymond was a second rounder and they were offered the max signing bonus - i.e. never going to get more, why wouldn't they go? I'd be more concerned if it were a situation like at UAA where Beagle left early to play in the ECHL.
I suppose he should go back to recruiting slow hacks with no chance to play in the NHL so they don't leave early?

I'm afraid I have to agree with Beersong on this one. They didn't leave because the team sucks. That being said, it certainly didn't give them any incentive to stay!

Here's another thing to think about... who are the potential Hobey candidates going to be next season?
FORWARDS
Ryan Duncan - UND
Eric Ehn - Air Force
Kevin Porter - Michigan
Andrew Cogliano - Michigan
Nathan Davis - Miami
T.J. Oshie - UND
Ted Cook - Niagra
Ryan Jones - Miami
Erik Condra - Notre Dame
Mike Santorelli - Northern Michigan
Andreas Nodl - SCSU
Benn Ferriero - Boston College
Jonathan Toews - UND
Andrew Gordon - SCSU
Obviously, there'll be a few of these guys not coming back. If our two stay, they'll have as good a shot as anybody on this list to win it. Duncan or Ehn could win it this year, so that'll probably work against them next year (didn't Duncan "obstruct justice" earlier this year?).
DEFENSE
Eric Johnson - UMN
Alex Goligoski - UMN
Robbie Bina - UND
Chris Butler - DU
Taylor Chorney - UND
Brian Lee - UND
Brett Motherwell - Boston College
Alec Martinez - Miami
Jason DeSantis - Ohio State
Eddie Del Grosso - Nebraska-Omaha
Nope, no SCSU candidates here! There's definately some from this group going pro as well. I'm not going to bother with the goaltending candidates, cause ANY of them could have a breakout year (ala David Brown).

Last year at this time... 15 underclassmen had signed pro contracts. So far this year... 21... with many of the biggest questionmarks left. Ouch.
