Sioux?

Well, a friend and I were up at Engelstad this weekend, and though it was only an exhibition game, I don't think the Sioux are looking all that hot this season. My observations:

-Jake Brandt didn't look that great. He got scored on 23 seconds into the game and later got pulled for the new goalie.

-They've got St. Cloud State Power Play Syndrome... when they get set up, they won't shoot the puck.

-And it also seems like they're looking like us when the other team scores shorthanded...

-However, Drew Stafford and Travis Zajac are going to light people up this year... they looked very good on the ice together.

...like I said, I know it was the first game, but I just figured I'd post some thoughts.

A Sioux scouting report wouldn't be complete without mention of what should be their biggest strength:Defense.

3 of the 4 team captains are on D; Greene (c), Jones, Schneider.

Jones, Fuher (25pts last year), and Scheider are all Seniors;

Greene stayed for his junior year after Edmonton applied pressure to get him to turn pro. He should dominate the blueline and is the on/off ice leader;

Smaby--sophomore, 6'5", smacked down plenty a' gopher last year and should be improved this year;

Radke--highly touted freshman / offensive defenseman;

Bina--5'8" so easy to pick out on the ice. Good speed and positioning--much stronger than he appears.

Foyt can fill in nicely, but might struggle for ice time.

Goal tending will be questioned until they prove otherwise. Parise and Lammie will hopefully get the job and hold it. I've never been confident in Brandt.

UND will be just fine. They played like **** in their first period of hockey of the season. After that, they kicked ass. Brandt played ok, the two goals he gave up he was hung out to dry on. He wasn't really pulled as UND always plays the goaleis who are dressed for exhibition games.

The Sioux should still be a top three team in the WCHA, so I'm not too worried.
