The Huskies lose in OT

5-4 WMU :(

I just don’t understand why they have our number this season, it’s so beyond frustrating

We played great but just couldn’t beat them, spending a lot of time defending and weathering the storm

No fault on Hrenak tonight, despite the stat line, he had NO chance on any of the Goals

And that overturned Hentges Goal was ****, it absolutely changed the game

Tough loss, if we clear the zone with 25 seconds left- I guess it was 47 seconds left , couldn't get the flip high enough you probably come up with 3 pts.
You have to give Western Michigan credit though, they outworked the Huskies, Huskies had great play by Hrenak and Krannila.
Pat Micheletti mentioned the goalie interference by Sam Hentges disallowed goal was knocking the puck out of the goalies glove before the goal- wasn't shown on the TV replay.

I know what Pat said, I get WHY it went that way but it was still BS

To find the infraction they had to go frame-by-frame well before the Goal and spent like 5 minutes looking, so yeah technically it was the correct call but yet again they went out of their way to find a way to disallow a Goal while continuing to espouse the need for more scoring and faster games

It’s crap, straight-up and I’d say the same thing if it happened to the Broncos

They didnt play great; I mean how many breakaway chances in the 2nd did Hrenak/the post have to stop? The D has been leaky for the last few weeks, this is just the first time they dropped points. Hopefully they learn from this.

I’ll be honest, I was still pretty emotional when I made that first post so there’s some overreactions in there lol

But, aside from the second period I felt the guys played pretty good, definitely not their best game but not their worst either (though that also came against WMU)

Frankly, the whole team owes Hrenak dinner for keeping us in the game and being one failed clear from a win; his numbers are gonna take a ding from this but it’s through no fault of his own

Western Michigan is just a nightmare matchup for us for some reason and it’s so beyond frustrating that they single-handedly eliminated us from Penrose contention pretty much :(

No idea where the goalie interference but I'll assume it happened. In other words the huskies were ineligible to score a goal until the puck cleared the zone. Had the defender seen hentges make that great play and hauled him down to prevent that goal that power play would have to be served. Had some defender noticed the failed call they could have taken every risk they wanted to attempt to turnover the puck and hopefully create a scoring chance. There were a couple times I thought western was in offside and held the puck for 15+ seconds making the possibility of a desperation icing more and more possible. The wrong call only matters if a kid makes a play and scores a goal. If an office official can't blow the play dead you just can't be screwing over teams that score goals. The case where an offsides has a direct impact on scoring a goal are rare. Either challenge the call within 3 seconds or live with the call.
All that said outside of scoring 4+ goals the huskies played horrible. Yes Hrenek faced a ton of great scoring chances and more often then not impressed me but he in large part due to his teammates failures let in 5 goals so the best you can say is he did fine, very few others played fine.

WMU's Michael Joyaux scores 1st hat trick by an NCHC defenseman in 5-4 OT win over SCSU
Junior ties game with 18.1 seconds left with 3rd goal of game, Drew Worrad scores 43 seconds into overtime to give Broncos a split in the series.

WMU is a big physical fast team which they struggle with. The Huskies need to dig deep and follow Krannila and Cockrell's work ethic, back checking like a mad man, taking body and selling out blocking shots. It was very disappointing early taking all the penalties that the coaching staff stressed all week. Plus all the mental breakdowns with that many odd man rushes is unacceptable.

First WMU goal Perbix battling on the boards, you have 2 Western Mich players mid and right with no one covering, everyone puck watching, Hentges leaves the ice and you basically have a 2 on 0 on Hrenak when they win the puck with Donohue chasing. D and certain Forwards were too high or on the wrong side to support the puck or puck watching too many times and Western is a team that makes you pay for that.

Goal number 3 all 5 Huskies watching the puck and Joyaux sneaks all the way in from the point to an easy back door.

Watching the compressed game Frank hit 2 posts and had two other grade A's stopped by Hrenek, Rome had a break away and Passolt had one post. With their speed our D or Fwd's were a step behind chasing (Fitzgerald, Trejbal, Jaycox and Donohue (usually covering for Perbix cheating)).

So NoDak, the favorites to win going in, get home-ice advantage now

So lame

Also, single-elimination makes every game infinitely more important, can't have an off-night or you're done
