Just a few interesting tournament facts about #1 seeds as we wait around these days for the tournament to start.
1) #1 seeds were a perfect 12-0 in first round games in the first 3 years that the tournament had the 16-team format (2003-2005). Things were tight in 2005, as all #1 seed teams won their first round game by 1 goal.
2) From 2006-2018, the four #1 seeds haven't had a clean sweep of first round games. Overall, they are 31-21 (0.596) in first round games. From 2003-2018 (adding in the perfect 12-0), they are 43-21 (0.672).
3) From 2003-2018, the #1 Overall seed is 14-2 (0.875). Those 2 losses occurred recently, in 2015 and 2018. The rest of the #1 seeds were 29-19 (0.604)
4) Does it help to be #1 Overall instead of #2 Overall? It seems to, as from 2003-2018 the #2 overall seed is 10-6 (0.625). The W-L record improved in recent years, as #2 overalls have won 4 of their last 5 first round games.
Go Huskies!
