Summary- typing while listening since I haven't seen the podcasts put up lately while watching the Wild and Bruins.

Bob thought Duluth had great fight in their game. Erickson brought up SCSU's depth. Bob swapped goalies and had some fresh bodies to get in there Saturday afternoon. Balanced but probably haven't had best offensive output yet. Bob said Eyssimont was great. Erickson talked about a friend being fined in a league if you criticize the refs.Erickson brought up how frustrating and difficult the hockey was to watch Friday night.
Bob-New initiative in hooking and holding. SCSU and Mankato only had one penalty in each game.
Why a month and a half into the season it's being called. Hands etc. but strength and broken sticks are called plus mistakes, totally discombobulated the lines and flow.
Consistency on calls and film but don't throw a curve ball in there.
No intent on the Borgen call, just two players turning in different directions and there was contact to the head. Enough with penalties. Break---

Erickson, dark outside already, Denver next week. Been able to win a wide variety of ways. Don't get down and answered right away. Great play by Eyssimont in the neutral zone, transition. Fitzgerald gets a goal, great pass by Ryan Poehling and Fitz follows up the rebound. Goal ignited the bench. Brodzy gets a nice tip off Ahcan's shot. Depth throughout the lineup. Got momentum but a long ways from where we want to be. Brodzinski's know where to get to the right spots.
Erickson says Easton called Jonny and gave him a hard time about getting a goal earlier than him. Bob hopes he scores as much as Jonny.

Slow start on Saturday, Duluth was desperate but we got a PP and it started bad but we got a goal. Up 2-0 but Duluth had the better punches. Getting momentum but then the dreaded TV timeout.
Have to be better shift to shift. Neidereitter scores, Wild up 1-0. Have to be better on faceoffs and every inch of the ice.
We have to be ready for Denver, a little tougher and a little harder. Can't always rely on the offense. Eyssimont dialed in hit knob of the stick upper left, goalie made a stick save lower left and he finally hits it in a very tight spot upper right.
Blake Winiecki is a great young man. Blake was at his best and reset. I think he is back. Sat Blake Lizotte and Nick Poehling Saturday, probably can't do that often after December. Fresh legs, depth issue, good thing. Duluth had 5 guys injured. Bob loves the early 5 o'clock start. TV dictated the 4 start. Bob watched North Dakota and NHL hockey with his extra time, she thought he was boring. Did ask to go out and she said no. Daughter was sick. He did ask though and he was ready to go. Break---

Boston scores, 1-1, Pastrnack stole puck from Spurgeon and centering pass from behind the net goes off Suter's skates and over Dubnik's glove and in.

Play by play Winiecki to Benson five hole. Player guest David Hrenak. Bob talks about excited to get goalies playing on the road. Dialed in, few distractions, great for team building/bonding.
Denver swept by Western Mich. No surprise. But Denver is still the best team in the country. Didn't play their starting goalie. Turned around quickly. Back to back road trips. Lost some seniors. Losing their going to be an ornery ornery team and we have to be prepared. Big awesome challenge coming up. Both 8:05 starts. Break--- Jacob Benson and David Hrenak are the player guests coming up.
Viatrano gets a soft knuckler by Dubnick (hits his stick on the right, falls down and trickles through his legs) Boston up 2-1.
Play by play of Fitzgerald goal intro.
Football and basketball shows coming up.
Jacob Benson and David Hrenak. Feeling on this weekend. Benson- knew it would be a tough one with Duluth. Friday no flow frustrating. Came up on top that's all that matters. Played more center on Saturday, enjoyed it, can play all 12 positions. Center has to win the faceoff and go down low and help the D. Have to track more players. Wing just up on the point.
Eager to get David Hrenak on. Oh it's amazing and enjoying every moment. 2nd time on the radio. What's it like making the transition. Last year in Green Bay was the hardest, language, looking for guys couldn't communicate. Much easier this year.
Benson, Hrenak already has better English than Niklas Nevalainen.
What's your style of goaltending. Square on the puck and SEE the puck. And catch them. Main differences. Here shoot from everywhere. Over there more passing. Erickson, what else, Hrenak -Watching checking out girls.
Exciting to be 7-0. Forget all past series and focus on Denver.
Erickson brings up Shutout, Hrenak gives everyone on the team credit. Might play for Slovakia in World juniors, still eligible, he hopes to face off against Motzko. Break---

1st Period over, Bruins 2, Wild 1, Staal in the box for hooking.

Erickson asks Jacob to describe Lower circle goal/pass from Winiecki, describe that goal. Benson says it's great to play with Mikey Eyssimont and Schuldt etc. Amazing some of the stuff Mikey tries in practice and it works.
Excited to play and head to Denver.Sorry he's a Packer fan. David Hrenak's first trip. Used to mountains, not in awe of the Rockies.
Remember to tune in to both games this weekend from Learfield.

Sorry for spelling and choppy typing trying to keep up.

Best quote from the coach's show Nov. 13 came from freshman defenseman Luke Jaycox from Warroad. Radio host Jim Erickson was asking Luke about the proximity to Canada from Warroad. Jim has some history with this area of the North because his dad had a cabin up there. Luke is a fishing guide on Lake of the Woods during the summer. Jim asked him if he always went through the customs stop, or did he save a few miles and go across some other place? Luke looked at him and said, "well, sometimes I would. It's not like sneaking into North Korea or anything."

Before it was public information that top Huskies recruit Guttman rescinded his verbal commitment to SCSU and now has signed a LOI with Denver, Bob Motzko was asked about his "disagreement" with Denver coach Jim Montgomery. Motzko said he just asked Monty "where do you get your ties?" Rabid Husky, who was also at the show, told me that if Guttman signs with Denver, that would be one hell of a reason for Motzko to be upset. Lo and behold, that seems to be the reason. ---Circle Feb. 23 and 24 on the calendar--that's when the rematch happens here at the Concrete Center.

Erickson asked the coach about Jr. wing Robbie Jackson and his very good play so far this season. The coach said the normal positive things regarding a player that is playing well. Jim mentioned that Robbie makes an excellent guest when he is on the show. The coach looks at the fans and states, "Robbie has never met a microphone or a camera that he didn't like!" Motzko then mentioned that Jackson may be the most involved player in the SCSU community that he has ever had in his tenure as coach. Nice to see players get recognition for more than the ice time.

Great recap Boom!

Gotta love Bob having a quick line as usual, both to the DU stuff and to RobbieJ

And Robbie J rules, dude is exactly what any coach wants in a player; great on the ice and hugely involved on campus and in the community :)

Highlights of last Monday's show:
Will Borgen was wearing slippers with no socks.

Jeff Smith from Maple Ridge, BC is a good friend of former defenseman Tim Daly. They work out together during the off season.

Borgen on answering Ms. Boomer's question regarding a scuffle he was involved in: "I think he just needed a hug."

Jim Erickson, radio host and local humorist, does a really good job interviewing the player guests. He has the ability to make these young guys relaxed and comfortable. He is looking forward to having Robby Jackson as a guest because that saves Erickson from a lot of work . . .

Coach Bob Motzko was in a better mood following the sweep of CC than he was after the Denver series . . .

Motzko also shared his forgetfulness earlier in the day. He shows up at home and gives his wife a big hug. She looks at him and asks "why are you here?" He had forgotten that this was Monday and he had a show to do. Then he wondered who filled in for him. Luckily, his wife informed him that it was only 5:30 and that he had plenty of time to get to the Green Mill. He was also asked about some other NCHC coach and how they coach. "Hey, I only have time to coach one team, so don't know about the other guy," he stated. Well, not really true. He will be coaching the USA's team in the World Junior tournament in Buffalo in about a month.

04Dec17 The Bob Motzko Show

Jim Erickson - welcome
Feels like winter, cold front coming through- talk about one of the Hottest teams in the land...
Erickson- how was Thanksgiving- Bob Motzko- ?? 2 weeks ago, great, watching hockey on the weekend.
Rust Friday, 5-0 Saturday.

Time off for Thanksgiving. Practice Monday, Tuesday and took the rest of the week off.
Needed it, probably not good in the short run. Bus to Omaha throws off your sleep. Can't think, worried about this weekend coming back from a road trip.

Friday night- some good things, we scored- up 5-2, then we take a penalty with 15 seconds to go, fresh ice, they score, now it's 2 goal game, 4 min later a 1 goal game. We have to be smart, learning how to play on the road and learning how play with a lead.
Jake has a 5 point weekend. Offensive player of the week.

Motzko -Like how we responded the next night. Very good goaltending by Henrak. Tight game at first.
This weekend will be tight. We stretched it out but we need to learn how to play in tighter games this weekend. Effort and defense when not scoring or the team is better.
Beautiful weather in Omaha and Denver. Listening to Cathedral hockey his son playing up north being taken to it by East Grand Forks. Break---
Huskies back home this weekend and Teddy Bear toss.

Erickson- Was there some rust? Motzko- Things got a little crazy. We deflect one in our own net. Then Kevin Fitzgerald gets one. Schuldt get a bounce. Then they get one. Then they turn one over and Brodzinski gets one upper shelf. Perfect saucer pass by Robby Jackson.

5-2 lead, Eyssimont gets one. Don't take a penalty- you can tell them all you want-- thank goodness it didn't cost us a point. One goal game their crowd into it. Holding on and then a great play by Eyssimont and Wahlin.

I like what happened the next night. They had 7 grade A's. Wally got us going. Got ourselves in penalty trouble in the third again. Two penalties, not even sure, not sure what was said on the bench. We're not a team that takes a lot of those. Not going to dwell on it, going to give this one a pass.

Short handed goal and then one by Robby Jackson. Robby as a winger getting back on defense. Robby has a glow, an athlete winning battles, on the back check, everything he is doing right is gaining confidence. Schuldt, Mikey all getting confidence. We have to keep it together, keep going forward.

Faceoffs, all players effort. Judd, 20 and 2 on faceoffs. When you start like that it puts the other team in the hole, makes it difficult. Have to continue and make progress. Lots of blocks also. Need to be closer, a few took some shots and bruises- too big of a gap. Schuldt any shot takes one for the team.
14 different guys get points. I think it is going to continue. Not really worried about line matchups. I want all of them getting experience.

Erickson- Ryan Poehling sitting out- he's ok. Motzko- If it was playoffs he would play but we had the chance to get him healthy.

Erickson- Weekly awards piling up, Brodzinski, Smith the week before and then Schuldt and Wally. Break---

We are back- Green Mill, above the rim show follows. 15% off food. Huskies score in the first period, get free cheese curds. Colorful Ken has his.

Jim -Let's talk about North Dakota. Demise is greatly exaggerated. Bob- Don't listen to social media. Union goes in and wins and ties. Then they sweep Western Michigan. Cam Johnson 7-2-1. Deep North Dakota team. Lost Tyson Jost. More of a team this year. They play to their strengths. Great defense, they don't have the big star they are much tougher to play against. Both teams playing very well sets up for a great series.

World Juniors, release roster tomorrow- 28 names. We leave next Thursday. Columbus for 5 days. Cut down to 23. Not a try out but team building. One more weekend of team play and then take off for Buffalo. Thank you so much, great crowd tonight. Teddy Bear toss on 2nd intermission.

Player guests- Will Hammer and Tyler Anderson, Coach Motzko-- they are going to be Huskies. Impressed with depth, guys we have confidence in. They will be in, in the future. Break---

A couple freshmen. Will has spent a little time at Green Mill, the Diablo wings.
Tyler from Steinback Ontario, small town, called automobile city, a bunch of car dealerships.
Both freshmen. Will - Dream come true to play for St. Cloud. Erickson - First memory,Will- ton of games in high school, watching Drew Leblanc, Hano etc..
Tyler grew up in suburbs of Winnipeg. Played juniors in Steinback. Blue Bomber fan. New stadium, grey cup- CFL. Rules differences- 3 downs instead of 4. Just be different. Extra 15 yards. Large end zones. Will- my fantasy team would do better. Tyler- Canadiens win it- fantasy football. Will- kind of bull.
Jim- Is there Canadien CFL fantasy league? Tyler- just recently. Jim- can't do a fantasy team, signed up but a practice week, couldn't do it with rooting for the Vikings. Will - good for you, my blood pressure would be a lot lower. Break---

Don't forget Granite City Sports or music after this. Men's basketball team had a sweep. Women's BB close game with Bemidji.
Will had a trip to the state HS tournament. Plus the MAC. Jim- Prefer NHL or Olympic size ice. Will- I don't know. Like a little more room, enjoy it so far.
Jim - Have you always been a d man? Tyler- Yes.
Assimulating from Juniors to college. Will- Pace is must faster. Everyone is a smart player.
Tyler- speed. Remember thought in practice had a read and Jake Wahlin flying by. Tyler- Love how simple Jimmy and Jon play.
Tough breaking into lineup. Will- Good to watch the upper classmen. Anything I can pick up and soaking it up. Going against great competition, getting better every day. Tyler- Everyone is getting better. Love the work ethic by everyone on the team.
Tyler- likes school. Biomedical science. Will- I like school. I like all sports, big sports guy. Vikings, Twins , huge water sports guy- skiing etc.
Jim- North Dakota coming. Will- Exciting, traveling fans. Tyler- Huge fan of North Dakota, loved Jonathan Toews now I have to hate them.
Jim Erickson- Thanks for the show- end.
