I'm pretty shocked that Jimmy Schuldt didn't get offensive defenseman... top scoring d in the ncaa and only d-man in the Hobey semi-finalists!

Seems like at least a decent chance Motzko could go. My hope was Lucia would last another year or two and Motzko's age would work against him which it might although all the other candidates are also over 50 and for some reason Gopher fans have turned on Poultony despite a very good to great first season as a head coach. Either way the Gophers are still stuck in the Big Ten and we're in the NCHC, and despite the fact the other Big Ten teams are better this year I still believe the kid that would choose Minnesota over us Duluth or North Dakota is more often then not going to be the wrong type of kid. Bob probably knows this better then anyone. If it comes to it I welcome a coaching search knowing we will attract good candidates that will be capable of winning here.

Money may talk...but Lucia was there 18 years and was NEVER accepted by some alumni because he still did things for his alma mater...fundraising...wearing the clothing to support his kid etc...there were alums who questioned his commitment to the U for that and didn't like him because he wasn't a U guy. Motzko knows all this...at this point in his career does he really want that kind of potentially major headache? I sure wouldn't.
Motzko for me is a guy who would be a good assistant there...but the head job just isn't worth all the other BS.

Motzko isn’t going anywhere. He can coach here as long as he wants and retire on his terms. Since he can compete here with the resources he has, the only draw at Minnesota is the money. It’s not going to be enough. Chillax everybody.

This question has been asked to Bob point blank. I've heard it straight from the horses mouth that he wants to retire here. He doesn't like the U, his family has set roots in cloud, and he likes the town and school. He is even considering retiring when his contract it up in 2021. Sure, there's always the possibility, but from talking to him in the past, it is negligible.

Frankly, I think SCSU should take a page out of UMN's playbook and start grooming Bob's replacement... namely Raboin. He needs head coaching experience. If he can't find something in D1, he should be applying for USHL gigs after this season is over.

As for Gibbons, I think he's great, but I also think he's comfortable in his current role. Gibby is a phenomenal talent scout and recruiter. He's also about to turn 63. He'll probably retire before or at the same time as Bob.

There are plenty of potential alumni coaches in the HS ranks as well, but they would need even more experience than Raboin to be ready. Ammerman (Moorhead) and Clafton (Greenway) are the two that jump out at me. There are also less obvious guys like Joe Jensen who is running the Gentry program. I'm not sure how motivated any of these guys are to become full time college coaches.

My pipe dream would be for Cullen to take a year off after his NHL retirement then get restless and come back to assistant coach at SCSU. He could back fill Raboin's spot. I'm sure his buddy Parrish would support the idea.
