I think he developed fine over the course of the season. I think he was trying to be too much like Ahcan and jump into the offense. The first series against Mankato he jumped down low and tried to drive to the net and got tripped and poke checked. He didn't seem like he had any sense of urgency to get back into the play more concerned about the trip.
I think he looked a lot better towards the end and actually made a lot better reads and played with much more sense of purpose as the season went along.
Like Rabid said, he was too much a liability in too many situations and I would say we had about 5 or 6 D players ahead of him. I would definitely put Lizotte and Nevalainan ahead of him through most of the season. He definitely needs a year or two more. Who knows with his potential it could be quicker.
He definitely loves hockey. It sounded like his mom wasn't too happy with his decision.

I agree with you, completely. But I feel that he would progress faster in a different system outside of the NCAA. All other leagues get far more game time than the NCAA offers, and I don't think it is what he wanted. For a player that is expecting to play hockey for a long time at the NHL level, 34 games a year is just not going to cut the mustard when you can get twice that elsewhere. I feel we could have done more to help, but he likely needed to take that on himself. It is more a fault of the system that we're in than one of the program.

They missed Widman, but he only had one assist and I'm sure there are a handful of other transfers or early graduations throughout the league.

My slight fear of losing Ryan Poehling is made worse by Vegas trading for the #24 pick and having the potential of adding another first round pick or two if they don't take certain players in the expansion draft. They're also in prime position to take Casey Mittlestadt at #6. Vegas could find a way to screw it up, or play more for the future, but they have the potential of being really good year one.

No worries, he'll be long gone by #24; he's going at #11 to St. Cloud West (LA), it's destined ;)

But in all seriousness, Vegas is the proverbial wrench in the Poehling scenario(s); they're the only team that would have a real possibility of immediately signing him.
Hopefully he's long-gone by #24 and we don't need to cross our fingers (and toes, and eyes, and... )

Teemu Kivihalme left CC

I feel bad for that fanbase, anytime they seem to gain some traction they lose it all

The worst thing for Poehling would be to sign right away. Age wise he is just out of HS. No way should he go HS-NCAA-Pro in 2 years. Look at the number of guys who leave college after one or two years and make it. Number jumps dramatically for those who stay 3+.
Honestly...because he left..i have doubts Cholo ever ends up an NHL regular.

I don't think it makes much difference if you develop in college or the pro's, the big thing is being able to face great competition. It's tough to say where the best competition is as expansion has diluted both the college and minor league's, but it feels like for this year the loss hit college hockey pretty big. I kind of feel like the loss of Jost Boesner and others in the conference were a significant factor in the Red Wings decision to sign Chowolski. Hopefully Vegas picks Mittlestadt at 6 and blindsides Gopher hockey fans instead.

Even if competition is weaker (which i don't buy) Poehling wouldn't be headed to the AHL. Cholo is going to the WHL and the reasoning I've heard is he would be the #1 there and get top minutes and PP/PK time. Something he wouldn't here (yet). IF Poehling were to sign...he'd be headed to the WHL and considering the family's contempt for them after the vitriol they got when he committed...i see no way that happens.
Next year would be a worry depending on his progress but he will be a Husky this fall.
