Only thing I could see there is if they claim Barber hit the puck first, then shoved Daly into Lindgren, but I'm not sure why that would matter. Would make an interesting protest possibility if we lose the series. Hopefully we can make it a moot point the next two nights.

Maybe we can get one of those nifty apology letters from the league. If not a letter, maybe an email. Wouldn't that be great?

Thanks for the highlight link, Doc.

At first I thought that Barber couldn't really do anything to stop running into Daly, and that the collision was a result of forward momentum. However, the way the rule is written, it's pretty clear that the goal shouldn't have counted.

Nothing we can do about it now, though. Gravel's buzzer-beater aside SCSU didn't play all that great and Miami probably outplayed us. We didn't do anything on the PP (save for Gravel's tying goal) and gave up a bad shorty too. We probably would have been lucky to win that game all told.

They've always responded to bad losses with nice rebound wins this year, so let's hope that's the case.

It is pretty clear the Miami player is going for the puck when he runs into Daly. He had his head down the whole time and was going for the puck. He didn't extend his arms to shove Daly. That play isn't a penalty or worthy of a disallowed goal. A penalty would have been if he actually extended his arms in a pushing motion and not even try to play the puck. You have to allow for physical battles for a loose puck in that situation. The ref had a perfect viewing angle of it too. That was a good no call and I think we would all be saying it had somebody on our team scored that way.

We just need to get things back on track tonight. Put last night behind us. I'm starting to question if we are going to have the defense and goaltending to make much of an NCAA run though. We've given up four or more goals in four of our last seven games. That's not a good trend at this point of the season.

That was my read too -- I don't think that's a penalty at all. If the rule is what MD posted, however, it seems to me that intent is irrelevant. Barber did make contact with Daly that led to him contacting the goalie.

I'm not all that upset with the call, though. That was my take while in the building last night, and though the replay makes it interesting, it still is a mistake to reduce the game down to that one play. Really only in a couple of stretches did SCSU control the action.

On a side note...what did folks think about the electric Star Spangled Banner? I'll just say that it was, um, "interesting."

Intent is always going to be a part of the thought process in that kind of situation. You have to be allowed to fight for the puck around the net. You could probably call that kind of penalty a few times in every game if the interpretation was as loose as it was put earlier because there are always going to be scrums around the net where a defender loses his balance and risks bumping into his goalie. I think the key there is he was clearly playing the puck and the ref was right there to see it. He didn't just go barreling in to shove a player with no regard for the loose puck.

Tough loss, but Miami just outplayed us for stretches.

Can't blame Fedz at all, only the second Goal was really his fault.

My only complaint was the refs swallowing their whistles in OT. There were SO many blatant Penalties by both teams.
It's a full Period ref, you NEED to call Penalties

We gotta avoid parts of the game where we came out flat and looked disinterested, the start of the 1st and the start of the 3rd we looked like 2 completely different teams, we play with that 3rd period intensity and fix a few defensive breakdowns and we will be playing Sunday night.

Any update on Prochno? I hope they are making sure he is 100% for the tournament. Good team game so far tonight, it's nice to be the team that gets the goals on non scoring chances from the blue line.

That's what happens when you try to defend a lead. Now we get to pws watch.

Not a great way to end it at home.
