He tore it up in the NAHL, but tallied just three points in 26 games for UMass. He'd be a walk-on for the Huskies. He could probably get a partial scholie at BSU. If he wants to play in the state, that might be his best bet.

Starting to see more recruiting in-roads into the metro area. I gotta believe recent success combined with TV exposure is starting to pay dividends. Think about the fact that for years and years the only college hockey team we could watch on a weekly basis was the rodents. Now the playing field while not level, (nor will it ever be with the U, unless we find our sugar daddy) is certainly less tilted in their favor. I sure hope we keep pushing and can find the money for Phase 2. Have to keep investing in the program.

I wonder if getting to play more Minnesota schools has a factor in kids choosing SCSU or UMD over the U of M, they play more outstate games and no longer play UND as well, along with TV time that could be an issue as well that plays to our advantage.

The Huskies have always been able to snag a few rough diamonds from the metro. That's not new. What's new(ish) is that Wahlin is high-profile. He's not a rough diamond, he's a blue-chipper. Again, that doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be the Huskies best player, but it sets a good precedent for future prospects... particularly when competing with UMD, UND, and UNO.

UMTC is obviously a different animal. They'll get the kids that A) they dentify as the best, B) they have room for, C) are not looking to play for a team other than the Gophers. I'm not sure which of B or C kept Wahlin from playing for the Gophers, but lack of talent was certainly NOT the reason.

I have only seen him once and he looks very good. His teams schedule was top notch and he put up huge numbers. This kid has talent.

That's a very impressive shot and can be a dangerous weapon if used right too, I cant wait to see him get the chance to showcase his offensive abilities and hopefully contribute on the power play with it as well.

What I liked most about the article though was the part where it mentioned him being a big time worker in the gym and always putting in the extra time to get stronger, that can be contagious on a team and hopefully he continues to get stronger as well.

We're winning recruiting battles against North Dakota. That's not quite on the level of winning battles against the Gophers, but it's getting close.

If anything it should mean more simply because UND is a conference opponent and someone we will play 4 times a year, if he would have went to UND instead he would play a much bigger role in the NCHC then he would have had he gone to Minnesota, IMO it means more to win a recruiting battle vs a conference opponent than it does the Gophers. But its still nice to take one away from the Gophers now and then too.

Totally agreed with Falco

It means so much more to steal a recruit from the Sioux then the goofs; though stealing one from the goofs is always a great thing ;)
