He made up for it Tuesday night where he laid out some rookie from the Edmonton Oilers.  Absolutely a classic Finger hit!  And it was a clean hit.  Several Oilers wanted a piece of Finger, but none called him out, or challenged him to a fight.  He also got an assist.

Arnie was the #1 star of the game--one goal, one assist and several sparkling offensive plays, and three take aways.  His defensive play has been outstanding for the past three years.  He was interviewed between periods, and was professional and poised.

Funny you mention him. My son last night asked what happened if the puck goes through the net.  I just laughed and said you know what? a fomer husky once did that!!!!  My wife then said who with a disbelief look on her face like I was lying.  after I told her she just laughed and said I forgot about that.  how could she forget the guy who single handedly won Dahliee Llama his only championship and then get kicked off the team the next year.

That goal last night was a bit of a laser too. I was at Sunday's game with my Dad the Gopher backer. He noticed the fine showing the Husky alums. Oh, and Leopold was in the box three times. :) I'm just glad they won. They shouldn't have let Colorado back in the game, but the Avs are a good team.

This is some news from Kevin's article today:

» Andrew Gordon, who scored the overtime winner for SCSU the last time the teams met on Dec. 2, 2006, was sent from Hershey of the AHL to South Carolina of the ECHL this week. Bobby Goepfert, who earned that victory last season also is soon expected to begin his pro career in the ECHL.

I wonder if Gordo wishes he hadn't left his senior year. I know the money is a huge incentive, but as for passing up his senior year of college...if he stayed we would have been definite NCAA contenders, he probably woulda been a Hobey finalist and not only that woulda got his degree. Instead, now he is in the ECHL. I just hope some of these kids don't make the decision to jump from college to the pro's strictly because of money.

I completely agree with you. I understand that players will develop faster if they are in the AHL as opposed to the NCAAs, and that the best year for a college player to make the big money is after their junior year, but I'm betting there are a number of college players that regret leaving early. So many of them sign and then don't even come close to making it in the NHL. I think of guys like Pudlick that jumped early and never became anything in the pros. Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but it would be nice to see more of these guys stick around longer.

It is wonderful to see our former players making waves. Jeff Finger has become a fan favorite with the Avalanche-based on reading their message boards. He continues to make thundering checks which tend to flatten guy. Just this past week he scored a short handed goal. He's scoring, checking, and getting regular ice time. He left after his junior year and served several years in the minors. He earned a spot in the line up.

Then there's Tyler Arnason, also with the Avs. Last game, number 2 star, one goal, one assist. He's always making plays. In fact, him and Finger have teamed up on at least one goal.

The list could go on, but those are 2 of my favorites. Which is why I thought it would be fun to go watch the Avs play the Wild on St. Patricks's Day, 08. Tickets still available for our group. I can get up to 24 seats. It will be a lot of hockey in a short time, since the first round WCHA is the previous weekend, and final Five starts on Thursday, but I'm a firm believer that you can never have too much hockey.

I saw today that Duvie got sent down to Syracuse. Looks like he's having problems with concussions. Hopefully he can get himself healthy enough to play, but you always want to be cautious with those head injuries.

Gordon gets a five point night 2goals 3assists for South Carolina. It could be he just needed to regain some confidence. Washington fans don't think he'll be down in the ECHL for long.

Goepfert made his pro debut last night and allowed one goal (PP) in a 9-1 win by Augusta (ECHL)

Bad news for Westcott--On Sunday he suffered another concussion (second one to put him on the sidelines this year). Last year he missed half the season because of a concussion. Hope he got his degree . . .

Head injuries/concussions have led to many shortened pro careers in the past several seasons. Others cause major problems as the athletes get older (after their career is done). I wish the best for Duvie.

On a brighter note, legendary non-hitter/non-physical player Tyler Arnason made the post game video highlights of tonight's Avalanche win over Edmonton (4-2). There is this closeup of a scrum, and an Oiler throws a wild left that just misses Arny's chin. Before the punch goes beyond his ear, Arny comes back with a mild left that lands straight on the other guy's forehead!! Neither dropped the gloves, but always good to see Arnason respond.

At his last banquet, Ms. Boomer and self told Arnason that we actually saw him throw a body check in one of the games. He replied, "Oh no. It wasn't me. It must have been some other #8." He did admit, however, to the other hit we saw--Final Five against the Gophers, Arnason was being roughed up by Troy Riddle (one of the many question marks on THAT Gopher team!) Arny turned around, gave Riddle a look, and punched him right on the jaw! Referee Don Adam, known for missing obvious penalties, was about 10 feet from the players. He paused a moment, adjusted his too-tight helmet, and skated away.

Adam and any one of the several Shepherds remain my favorite officials!!

Interesting last week for Boron.

He gets traded from Las Vegas to Charlotte then put on Waivers and was claimed by Stockton where he picked up a win in a shootout 4-3 in his first start.

I know he's not "in the pros" anymore, but did I hear right? Was that Scott Meyer on 93X this morning?

Boomer and I saw Scott Meyer a couple years ago at the NHC during one of the Select tourneys. Then he was an assistant coach at one of the USHL junior teams.

93X? That sounds dirty.

For anyone with the NHL netork, Pensacola is playing Florida tonight so a chance to see Da Kronick in action along with Lehun

Edit: It's not a live game as those two don't play tonight, but it's still on :)
