I don't think many Gopher fans are losing sleep when it comes to Motzko out-recruiting Lucia.  But, if many of you think like Kevin Allenspach and consider the Bryce Ravndalens of the world "blue chip recruits," as he noted in an article last week, then I guess Lucia should put in his papers ASAP.

he isn't a blue chip recruit, but he is the type of guy who will play four years and do very well at this level. SCSU is never going to land a team full of blue chippers like the gophers do. However, if they form a solid foundation and land a few studs they will be a NCAA team 8 out of every 10 years. Once you get to that point then National titles start becoming a real possibility and that is what most husky fans want.

Where did Allenspach imply he's a blue chip recruit? Where did anyone?

He said he's highly regarded and I would consider a kid with 3 offers including one full ride who was also in contact with UW and UMN a highly regarded recruit.

The kid has talent, anyone who saw the state tourney could see that.

Amazing how a tongue in cheek comment reels you in.

And I'm glad we don't. How many superstar laden teams actually win the whole thing?

Hasn't happened the last 4-5 years.

That's like saying we don't want top notch players, or we don't want NHL prospects because they might leave early.

I'm all for throwing mud at the Goofer contingent, but your reasoning seems a bit faulty. I'm all for bringing in the best players possible. I realize star laden teams don't always win the big one, but even if they won it once it a while that would be good enough for me.

Besides, that Cardinal guy is a clown. ;D Don't pay any attention to him.

I'm not saying that at all. What I'm saying is that in addition to going after big name guys, we will need guys like Ravndalen and Oslund who do other things and are more complete players.

Superstars alone don't win titles. You need to have team oriented character guys as well.

Some box.

I clarified what I said. I don't want a team of just superstars, they don't win. I want a good mix, like the one the Huskies are currently making.

It makes me chuckle that the Gopher rubes are lurking over here. Go start a thread and wait 15 minutes for Jupiter to lock it. ;D

Wishlist (Minnesotans Edition)

Blue Chip

91 - D - Nate Schmidt (St. Cloud Cathedral)

91 - F - Zach Budish (Edina)

90 - F - Tyler Landman (Roseau)

92 - F - Emerson Etem (Shattuck)

Not Dissappointed

91 - F - Jared Maetche (St. Cloud Tech)

90 - G - Aaron Crandall (St. Thomas Academy to Green Bay USHL)

90 - F - Luke Grenier (Shattuck)

88 - D - Matt Crandell (St. Cloud Cathedral to Sioux City USHL)

91 - D - Nick Leddy (Eden Prairie)

90 - F - Ben Hanowski (Little Falls) committed to SCSU

90 - D - Drew Olson (Brainerd)

92 - D - Andrew Pitts (Brooklyn Park)

91 - F - Josh Birkholz (Blake)

Not really any changes, just updating.  Almost any of these guys (besides Etem and Pitts) could be '09s, but we've got two right now in Ravndalen and Oliver.  For comparison; CC also has (up to) two, Denver has up to three, Minnesota has four, Duluth has three, NoDak has up to four, and Wisconsin has up to five.  The coaching staff is actually a bit behind.  My guess?  We get a commitment from this list before the start of the season.

Again, my wishlist and predictions are only from stats and reports.  That being said, I'll be fun to start adding Canadians to the list soon.  Others will, sadly, have to be cut.

Speaking of Schmidt... he just broke his ankle at the Five Nations Tournament. That's super crappy for him.

Here's a rundown on how USA Hockey might rank the remaining uncommitted Minnesotans.  Basically, it's NTDP kids (only one uncommitted), then the USA's Select Teams (arranged by points), then Select Camp participants (arranged by points)...

1. D - Nick Mattson (Chaska/NTDP) little to no chance for SCSU

---------------------

2. G - Aaron Crandall (St. Thomas Academy/Green Bay USHL) anybody's guess

---------------------

3. F - Zach Budish (Edina) quoted as showing interest, but competition is strong

4. D - Nick Leddy (Eden Prairie) no real idea if he can be sold on SCSU

5. F - Jared Maetche (St Cloud Tech) strong possibility, do the coaches want him?

6. D - Nate Schmidt (St. Cloud Cathedral) quoted as saying he'd "love" to play for SCSU, but competition is strong

---------------------

7. F - Luke Greiner (Shattuck) visited SCSU?

8. F - Andy Singerhouse (Hill Murray)

9. F - Tyler Landman (Roseau)

10. F - Zach Lehrke (Park Rapids)

11. D - Drew Olson (Brainerd) visited SCSU?

12. F - Ryan Bohrer (Cretin)

13. F - Matt Leer (Edina)

14. F - Charlie Thauwald (Rochester Mayo)

15. F - Cory Thorson (Armstrong)

---------------------

16. D - Jordan Johnson (Hill Murray)

17. F - Nick Widing (Hill Murray)

18. F - Joey Rehcamp (Breck)

19. F - Chad Hennum (Elk River)

20. F - Tyler Pitlick (Centennial)

21. F - Connor Gaarder (Edina)

22. F - Tony Palkki (Grand Rapids)

23. F - Tyler Zepeda (Hill Murray)

24. F - Cody Hotchkin (Duluth Denfield)

25. D - Mark Alt (Cretin)

26. D - Blake Thompson (Eden Prairie)

27. D - Ryan Weston (Roseau)

28. F - Tyler Lapic (New Prague)

29. F - Tyson Fulton (Breck)

30. F - Matt Johnson (Stillwater)

31. D - Izaak Berglund (Little Falls)

32. G - Michael Webb (Holy Angels)

33. G - Matt Hemingway (Alexandria)
