Obviously Bob is no idiot and knows what a valuable recruiter Rabs can be over there with his experience playing there as well as being a young coach. Great to see the program continue to tap into quality players from there. Many of them are great students as well and represent this program in a positive light. Interesting to see Don bringing in some Swedes as well. I expect to see more euros playing d1 hockey with the recent success of many of them over here and with the proven track record of continued development, a chance at pro hockey and the opportunity to earn a degree at an American university for free.
The free American university doesn't mean quite as much coming from a country with free college, but it'd be impossible to get them over here without it!

I'd be curious to see Raboin's presentation. We could get it with a FOIA request, but I'm not quite THAT curious. The one thing I'd kinda like to know is if Rikard Gronborg is an active or passive promoter for SCSU. Everybody at that camp likely knows who he is. Do you think Rabz dropped his name?

TEO, yes they do have free access to college education. Damn socialists. However, I think the attractiveness of the free American degree and the opportunities it can present along with the quality of D1 hockey and the potential for pro hockey success we will see more and more Scandinavians over here playing major college hockey.

It'd be really interesting to find out about Gronborgs support level of the program. He has spent time coaching over here as well. He is becoming a big time coach in Sweden hockey. Hopefully he is informing players of the great program here. I'd take another guy like Sacha Molin any day. Interesting to see the U taking Swedes as well, not surprising after Haula's success, either.

Good job Dogg Pound! We're going to need a Danish flag if Russell scores this year!
I'm pretty sure that flag they were talking about was Fangs as he's had it for quite some time. A second flag showed up one of the last few games but Fangs is the one who was usually on the ball about having it up when a Finn was on the ice. Graduation is taking away the core again as things get passed on. The good thing is they usually get passed on to others willing to continue the work. Whether they're able to keep the crowd active really depends on the willingness of the fans around them to join in.

His older bro plays for the Mn Wild of course, not sure if he will be in Iowa or Mn this year but either way coming to SCSU would put him much closer to family. :D

Not that we don't have a massive backlog of '96 born forwards, but I have to think that the Huskies are taking a look at Elk River's Jake Jaremko who is currently tearing it up in the Elite League. I don't know if he has any connections to SCSU, but his older brothers play for Concordia. The geography wouldn't help us in a recruiting battle with the Gophers, but it's a benefit against anybody else.

Jaremko was draft eligible in 2014 (barely) but was not selected. His preseason play probably puts him solidly in the Mr. Hockey discussion.

First potential shots in a new kind of recruiting war have been fired by the B1G.

They have an advantage in scholarships, but I don't think that'll have all that
much effect on recruiting.

The majority of players will still choose schools based on the usual factors

It's how and if things progress from here that'll dictate if there's gonna be a new kind of recruiting war

Like one of the comments on sb nation it looks more like keeping players from jumping to the WHL or drawing some bubble NHL bluechippers.

Scholarships are still a huge part of it though. Fully funded would mean a lot more covered than what scholarships currently cover. Plus, a guarantee of four years of financial aid as opposed to the current year to year scenario. If you offer a kid something like that and communicate about how many other schools don't offer the same deal, it will make a big impression on mom and dad.

Yes, we could step up and offer similar packages but that will clearly increase the strain on an already tight athletic department budget. We don't have the big money bank accounts that Big Ten schools do and we won't be able to shrug off the extra expenditures as easily as they can.
