Women's Hockey--2014-15
The season starts with an exhibition win over the Toronto Aeros, 3-0. Good win for the team and the coaches. The Aeros are a junior team ages 15-18.
Impressions on the first night:
-Huskies had more offensive flow and offensive puck movement than previous years.
-Huskies looked like they were having fun. First game, new season, new coaching staff, so this would be expected. Hope this attitude is still there as the season progresses.
I talked to assistant coach Jinelle Siergiej today at the "Meet and Greet" season ticket holders event. She was one of the best collegiate hockey players, leading the evil Wisconsin Badgers to two national championships a few years ago. A VERY impressive hockey player and is certainly geared up for her coaching stint at SCSU. Her energy and knowledge of the women's game will be a great asset for SCSU.
Newcomers that looked good: Transfer defender Lexi Slattery plays like she's played before--excellent skater and good puck mover. The other transfer, Molly Illikainen, has a knack for the puck and plays a physical style at wing. Freshmen Anderson, Turbyville, Johnson and Erickson all looked like they will fit in with the "new" team.
All the returnees looked to be in good shape and good attitude. All three goalies each played a period and obviously all did well (a shutout). The most saves were by redshirt goalie Jacqueline Audet in the third period. This was her first action as a Husky.
All this against a young junior team. Next week the team goes to Ridder for a tournament. They will face Boston University Friday afternoon (they are supposed to be pretty good) and then play Penn State on Saturday. Much better competition, so we shall see.

It's noted in the article but should be noted here as well, it's a home and home series. Friday in Mankato and Saturday here.

Congrats to the entire team--and first-year coach Eric Rud for their big 5-1 win over the saps from Mankato!!
Yes, that means that right now, the SCSU Huskies are leading the WCHA!!!
Check out the Sin Bin Crew tomorrow night at 7:07. What is that smell?? Why, I think I smell a SWEEP!!
Get there for the drop of the puck, because the Mad Cows from Mankato are always a bit chippy, and it might start early. . .
The scoring streak for Amanda Arbogast is growing!! And when will my favorite Grand Rapidian (Molly Illikainen) come out of her mini-slump and dominate!!?? And look for a "Spat-Attack" from #16, Vanessa Spataro.
Skeeterman would be there, but he and wife Barb are either in London or Spain. Not sure because I lost their itinerary . . .
